Ambuja Neotia Group has announced a ₹2,700 crore investment in hotels and resorts across West Bengal. The plan covers Kolkata, Raichak, Digha, Siliguri, Lataguri, Kalimpong and Darjeeling. The group also opened two AltAir House hotels under the IHCL SeleQtions brand on a franchise basis. The Kolkata hotel has 42 rooms at Ecospace Business Park in New Town. The Siliguri hotel has 60 rooms in Uttorayon Township and event space for up to 1,200 guests.
In a franchise, the owner runs the hotel and pays the brand owner for its name, sales channels and standards. The ₹2,700 crore includes the two new hotels and a ₹100 crore expansion of Taj Chia Kutir in Darjeeling. That expansion adds 28 keys, meaning rentable rooms, and 15,000 sq ft of banquet space. The IHCL and Ambuja Neotia partnership now spans more than 80 properties, including 55 Tree of Life resorts. For IHCL, this growth comes with little capital of its own.
Our view is that Ambuja Neotia and IHCL both gain, and independent hotels in New Town and Siliguri lose ground. The owner gets IHCL’s loyalty members and booking reach, and IHCL earns fees without building anything. Independent mid-scale hotels will now compete with a Tata group name for weddings and conferences. The coverage leaves out the timeline, so you cannot yet tell whether the ₹2,700 crore lands over three years or ten. Large state-level hospitality pledges in India have usually been spent in phases over several years. We expect the Taj Chia Kutir expansion to be the first new project to open, and at least one more Ambuja Neotia and IHCL hotel announcement in West Bengal within 12 months. Confidence: medium.
This is important for our readers because North Bengal is getting a large block of new branded rooms in one go. If you run an independent hotel in Siliguri or New Town, review your wedding and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) rates this week. If you supply linen, food, fit-out or staff in the region, contact the Ambuja Neotia projects team about its pipeline. If you plan winter events in North Bengal, get a quote from AltAir House Siliguri to compare.
