Commercial LPG Rises Again Before Diwali

Comments Off on Commercial LPG Rises Again Before Diwali

State-run oil marketing companies raised the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder from 1 November 2026. NDTV India and ABP Live report that the Delhi price rose by ₹10 to ₹2,820. ABP Live puts the new price at ₹2,774.50 in Mumbai, ₹2,964 in Kolkata and ₹2,908 in Bengaluru. Chennai saw the largest rise, ₹11.50, taking the cylinder to ₹2,994.50. The price of the 14.2 kg domestic cylinder did not change.

Commercial LPG is the main cooking fuel for most hotel kitchens, restaurants, dhabas and caterers. This is the second monthly rise in a row, and NDTV India reports that the 1 October revision added ₹62.50 in Delhi. Economic Times Hindi links the higher costs to disrupted oil and gas supply through the Strait of Hormuz amid tension in West Asia. Reports differ on some rates, as Economic Times Hindi lists Delhi at ₹2,810, and NDTV India puts Mumbai at ₹2,764 against ABP Live’s ₹2,774.50. The rise lands just before Diwali, when demand for sweets, snacks and catering peaks.

Our view is that a ₹10 rise is small per cylinder, but it stacks on a ₹62.50 rise a month earlier and lands in the busiest kitchen weeks of the year. Large kitchens that burn several cylinders a day lose most, while operators with piped natural gas or induction kitchens gain a cost edge. Coverage has focused on city rate tables and has said little about how much more restaurants can pass to diners. Mint reported in October that chains had already raised menu prices by about 6% as food costs rose 7 to 8%. Oil companies revise commercial LPG on the first of each month, and prices have tended to keep rising while West Asia supply stays disrupted. We expect the 1 December revision to be a further rise or no change, not a cut. Confidence: medium.

This is important for our readers because fuel is one of the few kitchen costs that changes every month. Check your cylinder use per cover this week and fix any leaks or idle burners. Ask your gas distributor to confirm the new invoice rate in writing. If you run a large kitchen where piped natural gas is available, get a quote this week.
