Hotel Chains Sign Nearly 10,000 Rooms
Listed hotel chains and developers lined up close to 10,000 room signings in October 2026, Mint reported on 1 November. IHCL, Lemon Tree Hotels and Brigade Group accounted for more than 7,000 of those rooms. The largest single deal was Lemon Tree’s tie-up with Omaxe for about 4,000 rooms across eight locations, announced on 16 October. IHCL signed eight hotels with more than 2,000 rooms with the Adani group, and three Gateway hotels in Agra, Alwar and Lucknow with 569 rooms. Radisson signed 600 keys in the month, and ITC Hotels said it signed 20 hotels with more than 1,600 rooms in the first half of FY27.
A signing is a contract to brand or manage a hotel that may open years later. HVS Anarock, a hotel advisory firm, told Mint that hotels take three to five years to open after signing. Its data shows 28,268 rooms signed up to June 2026, up 8%, and it expects India to have 350,400 branded rooms by 2030. Mint links the rush to strong domestic travel, with 4.29 billion domestic tourist visits in 2025, up 45.6%. Rattan Keswani of Lemon Tree Hotels told Mint that chains are doing repeat deals with the same developers.
Our view is that October’s total says more about developer appetite than about rooms you will see soon. Brands gain fee income and pipeline headlines, while independent hotels in the same towns lose pricing power once these hotels open. Coverage has not said how many of these rooms are fully funded or have land and approvals in place, which decides how many open on time. Past signing waves in India have seen a share of projects delayed or dropped before opening. Large developer deals like the Omaxe one carry the most execution risk because one partner controls many sites. We expect total branded signings for calendar 2026 to beat 2025, and we expect at least one of the large October deals to report a delay or reshaping by the end of 2027. Confidence: medium.
This is important for our readers because new branded supply is heading for cities you may already operate in. Check which of the named cities overlap with your hotels this week. If you own land or a building, ask two brands for their current management fee terms. If you supply hotels, list the developers named here as sales leads.
